Sports Massage Brisbane

Expert Sports Massage is as much art

as it is science.

Our Remedial Therapists have spent thousands of hours learning both the art and science of sports massage – with years of competitive sports, dance and martial arts under their belts – they understand the risks of letting niggles become problems, and the impact that can have on your training, performance and competitive advantage.

A qualified remedial massage therapist performing sports massage can systematically assess an individual and locate the cause of pain and dysfunction – before it becomes an injury.  Qualified therapists can be effective for the management of:

  • Groin strain
  • Hamstring tension
  • Achilles tendinopathy
  • Shin splints
  • various forms of sciatica
  • Tight hip flexors
  • Hip bursitis/tendinopathy (Greater trochanteric pain syndrome)
  • Rotator cuff tendinopathy and tears
  • Calf pain
  • Neck pain
  • Neck and shoulder tension

What is the difference between sports and deep tissue massage?

A deep tissue massage is generally a non-specific general massage whereas sports massage is targeted at a specific outcome. Treatment starts with a rigorous assessment process to determine the cause of injury, discomfort and pain.  Your Remedial therapist will discuss your training schedule, recovery process and desired outcomes to tailor a process that will help meet your goals. Assessment will also help with post treatment advice including specific stretches for hypertonic muscles. Our Expert Remedial Therapists get results fast.

When should you get Sports Massage Treatment?

Any time you are in pain, when you are increasing your training, after or before events.  Sports massage is not designed to be relaxing – it is designed to resolve injury, dysfunction and pain, increase performance and recovery.   If you are not performing at your best – treatment performed by a qualified Remedial Massage Therapist will probably give you a better result.

What’s sports massage?

It  is a branch of Remedial Massage that deals with the needs of an athlete before and after performance. The goal of a sports treatment is to improve performance through optimised tissue function and reduce injury risk and detect injury before it becomes problematic.

Post event treatment  is used to assess the body for irritation, swelling, tears, strains and tension – and accelerate recovery through touch and clinical observation.

At Knead Massage, sports treatments are tailored to the INDIVIDUAL and their different sports and injury profile.

Will Sports Massage get rid of Knots?

Muscle tension responds well to manual techniques such as trigger point therapy, met and activated mfr techniques.  Not only will tight, angry muscles yield to a skilled remedial massage therapist and move more easily without pain treatment will:

  • Promote blood flow increasing nutrients to muscles
  • Assist with the clearance of blood lactates
  • Reduce delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS)
  • determine the presence of muscular lesion or irritation (such as strains)
  • reduce swelling
  • calm down excited tissue

How often should I have treatments?

This depends on your goals, physical condition, length of training and preparation & injury. Often athletes and performers may get regular treatments leading up to an event and then after for recovery. Some have a regular weekly session when training is high, others come on an as needed basis. There is no hard and fast rule, but without a doubt sports treatments will help you get more out of your chosen sport. Train longer and harder, perform better and recover faster with help from our qualified team!
