Lymphatic Compression Pump Therapy Brisbane, – what are the benefits?

In this article we will discuss lymphatic compression pump therapy brisbane – what it is, how to use it and the benefits. Compression pump therapy offers optimised management for general bloating and fluid retention (oedema)  chronic swelling – such as lymphoedema and lipoedema through:

  • Fast relocation of excess lymph fluid from the limbs into the excretory organs. Drain swelling associated with venous insufficiency and lymphoedema into the bloodstream to be evacuated.
  • Greatly decreasing inflammatory pain by reducing chronic swelling. This reduces the inflammatory response of the body, resulting in a significant reduction in pain and discomfort.
  • Improving venous return from the limbs to the heart. Reducing swelling and improving tissue quality allows blood flow to increase which has its own anti-inflammatory effects and likely improves energy levels.
  • Skin integrity. Swelling and chronic inflammation can increase the risk of compromised skin integrity, ulcers and pathogens entering the body through wounds.

What is Lymphatic Compression Pump therapy?

Lymphatic compression pump therapy is a lymphatic drainage machine comprising of a compression pump and inflatable cuffs that are “worn” on the swollen limb. These automatic Compression Garments will enclose the swollen arm or leg and move lymph fluid through a process of inflation and deflation.  This pulsing action (it takes approximately 60 seconds to fill or deflate respectively), creates hydraulic pressure, and results in large quantities of lymph fluid moving.

A typical pump cycle will run for 30 minutes of 1 minute on/off (deflation/inflation). Depending on your condition the pump cycle may be longer. Pressure is adjusted according to your presenting complaint, how the pressure feels to you and how many treatments you have had.

Combining Lymphatic Massage with Compression Pump therapy

Pressure pump therapy combined with expert Manual Lymphatic Drainage (professional technique) is an efficient way to move large amounts of lymph fluid and usually provides an obvious reduction in swelling for both Lipoedema and Lymphoedema.

Your lymphatic drainage therapist will open the lymph nodes correctly before using the pump. They will also assess how the nodes are feeling, if there are any blockages and perform some lymphatic pumping exercises with you to stimulate the lymphatic system.

Once the nodes are cleared and opened in the correct sequence you are placed in the pump.  Pressure and comfort are checked and you then relax in the lymphatic drainage pump as it goes to work and moves large amounts of fluid through the lymphatic system. By combining the skills of a lymphatic therapist and compression therapy you ensure you receive the most efficient treatment.

Compression Therapy provides Superior Management of Chronic Inflammatory Conditions such as Lymphoedema and Lipoedema.
